The 61GS series was launched in 1967 and 51 different variation of models were produced throughout its run which lasted until 1975.
This is an all original vintage 6146-8000 Grand Seiko employing the famous G.O.D (grammar of design) case design first introduced in the 44GS. The earlier examples of the 6145/6-8000 have a different dial to those that followed, with “Grand Seiko” printed on the dial under the GS logo, rather than “Hi-Beat 36000”. Given the much shorter production run of these early pieces, these are more collectible than the later hibeat dial variants.
Overall, this piece is in nice honest vintage condition. The case has some light scratches but it most likely has never been polished. It retains very sharp edges with a beautiful Tanaka grammar of design profile. The original white dial is in clean but honest condition with some blemishes and marks throughout the dial. The handset and crown are all original and show some aging but is in good condition. The original caseback and gold medallion is in nice crisp shape. The movement was serviced by our watchmaker in March 2023 and is currently running at +6.2 seconds per day.
