This watch needs no introduction. Memorialized in the 1987 movie Wall Street, the all yellow gold version was worn by Gordon Gekko played by Michael Douglas. The Santos was born in 1978 as a a result of Cartier’s decision to try to appeal to a younger crowd who leaned towards sportier watches. The Santos now is an icon and arguably the most famous Cartier timepiece in history. The reference 2960 is the full stainless steel version of the Santos de Cartier, also referred to as the Carrée amongst Cartier enthusiasts. This is the LM size which is the men's size of the Santos de Cartier. What makes this 2960 even more special is that this example is the rare red burgundy red dial which is highly coveted amongst watch collectors.

Overall, this piece is in excellent vintage condition. The stainless steel case and bracelet is in near flawless condition with the edges super sharp which is a key feature collectors look for when hunting for a 2960 steel carrée. The original burgundy dial has a red lacquer finish. These early Santos lacquer dials often develop cracking and this one has some small cracks throughout the dial that can be seen when viewed up close. An original burgundy dial is very rare, especially in its original lacquer finish as these often got replaced when sent in for servicing at Cartier. The dial on this example has some cracks and shows some aging but is overall clean and most importantly, is the original dial. The hand set on the dial shows some aging, as is expected from a watch of this age, but is in great shape. The very special ruby cabochon is in excellent condition. The automatic movement was just serviced in April 2024 and is currently running at +21.1 sec/day. The watch comes with a 6 month movement warranty from us. The watch comes as a full set with its outer/inner box, Cartier certificate of guarantee (unsigned) and instruction manual.
