Introduced in 1928, the Tank à Guichets remains one of Cartier’s most distinctive creations. At a time when nearly every watch relied on hands and a traditional dial, the Guichets displayed the hours and minutes through two apertures, creating a design that felt both futuristic and unmistakably Art Deco. Throughout its history, the model has appeared only in limited runs or special orders, making it one of the rarest and most sought-after Tanks ever produced.

Reintroduced as part of the Cartier Privé collection at Watches and Wonders 2025, this latest Tank à Guichets stays remarkably faithful to the original. Measuring 24.8 x 37.6mm and just 6mm thick, it retains the elegant proportions that defined the 1928 model while offering the refinement expected of a modern Cartier. The brushed 18-carat rose gold case is interrupted only by two carefully bevelled apertures: a jumping-hours display at 12 o’clock and a dragging-minutes display at 6 o’clock. As on the original, the crown is discreetly positioned at 12 o’clock, reinforcing the watch’s architectural symmetry.

The design is a pure expression of restraint. There is no conventional dial, no markers, and virtually no ornamentation—just a beautifully finished metal surface punctuated by the two windows of time. The Art Deco-inspired numerals further strengthen the connection to the original design, while the hand-finished bevels surrounding the apertures showcase Cartier’s attention to detail.

Powering the watch is Cartier’s calibre 9755 MC, based on the ultra-thin Piaget 430P. Measuring only 2.1mm in height, the movement has been extensively reworked to accommodate the jumping-hours and dragging-minutes complication while maintaining a slim profile and approximately 43 hours of power reserve.

Nearly a century after its debut, the Tank à Guichets remains as compelling as ever. Its minimalist appearance conceals an extraordinary level of design sophistication, resulting in a watch that feels less like a traditional timepiece and more like a piece of wearable art. With its rarity, historical significance, and faithful execution, the Privé Tank à Guichets stands among the most important modern Cartier releases. This reference made its auction debut in spring of 2025 and performed very well and there is no doubt due to its scarcity and intriguing design it will continue to perform well for years to come.

This Cartier Privé Tank à Guichets is in brand-new, unworn condition.
It comes as a full set with its presentation box, papers, folio with product literature, and guarantee card. The watch is in full working order and has eight years left in its Cartier boutique warranty.
