The Cartier Baignoire was introduced in 1957 - a creative period during Cartier's history when they were experimenting with various shapes and styles in their wrist watches. A couple of years after the production of the original Baignoire, Cartier designers elongated the oval watch further, creating the Baignoire Allongée. As legend has it, the Baignoire Allongée is the watch behind the iconic Cartier Crash. The story goes that a gentleman was wearing a Baignoire Allongée when his car crashed and the disfigured watch became the inspiration for the Crash.
This Baignoire Allongée, from the early 2000s, cased in white gold remains faithful to the original design. It serves as an elegant dress watch, fitting perfectly beneath the cuff. It hugs the wrist in a way that is both supremely comfortable. Beneath the curved crystal, the white dial has a intricately patterned guilloché dial. It features dramatically elongated Roman numerals, following Cartier’s typography, while offering a new take on how to elegantly balance an oval-shaped dial. In typical Cartier style, the watch features a blue sapphire cabochon, set in the beaded crown. The watch is powered by the Frederique Piguet based caliber 610 which is a thin, reliable, and beautifully finished movement.
