The Seiko Lord Marvel was introduced in 1958 by Suwa Seikosha and was Seiko’s first ever luxury model. Most Seiko experts agree that there are five dial variations to the 1st generation Lord Marvel (1958~1964). The watch offered here is a mark three dial with the logo carved similar to the mark one but without the applied S. The carving of the Lord Marvel logo were hand carved by the same expert craftsmen at the Suwa factory who were carving the logo for the First Grand Seiko. In addition, this is a "special dial" Lord Marvel as indicated by the sun shaped octagonal logo above the six o'clock, meaning that the index of this watch is made of 18k solid gold and were hand planted (instead of glued) by the craftsmen and women at the Suwa Seikosha factory. This is a chance to own a piece of history and a top luxury model vintage Seiko at a fraction of the price from the first Grand Seiko with carved logo. The case of this Lord Marvel uses the J14068 case design which is a 14k gold filled case.
Overall, this 1st generation mark 3 dial Seiko Lord Marvel is in a great vintage condition. The 14068 gold filled case has a few nicks and minor scratches which is expected for a watch of this age. As can be seen from the pictures, the top left lug is slightly bent-this does not affect the functionality of the watch though. The crown has the correct "S" mark logo. The original dial is in great condition with the carved "Seiko Lord Marvel" logo in beautiful/crisp shape. The dial is clean overall with no noteable discoloration. The 18k solid gold index are all in excellent condition. The original hands are also in excellent condition and is the highly desirable “mountain” hands shape that was also used in the First Grand Seiko carved logo models. The movement was fully serviced by our watchmaker on July 2021 and is running well at +26.4 sec/day. The watch comes with a brand new Tan Epsom strap made by the talented Jones in Tokyo. The strap is paired with a vintage Seiko buckle (not original to this watch).
