In the rich history of the Japanese collector community, IWC has held an enduring presence, weaving a narrative of horological excellence. We are proud to offer a rare Platinum vintage IWC, a veritable exemplar of the quintessential dress watch.
The watch is fitted with IWC’s respected caliber 89, which was constructed to be a workhorse movement with simplicity, reliability, and robust performance in mind. In production from 1946 to 1979, IWC started using this movement in with the IWC Mark XI models commissioned by the British Ministry of Defense. With decades of solid performance and success of this caliber, IWC went on to create several movements based on this caliber, including the Calibre 5000 and the Calibre 89000 family, whose name obviously is a direct homage to the legendary three-hander.
This vintage platinum IWC is in overall great condition. The platinum case retains its sharp edge and is thick overall. The white dial is in good condition and has aged to a beautiful cream color. The dial has some minor spotting due to aging throughout the dial that can be observed at an angle. The original hands, hour, and minute markers, is in overall good condition. The inner caseback have clear engravings of its serial number as well as the platinum hallmark. The beautiful caliber 89 manual wind movement has just been serviced in January 2024 and is currently running at +5.9 seconds/day. The watch comes with a new high quality brown calf strap from Jones in Tokyo.
