The SBGR091 in white gold was introduced at Baselworld 2015, to commemorate the 55th anniversary of Grand Seiko. It was limited to 100 pieces and was part of the 62GS Historical Collection, modelled after the original 62GS released in 1967.
Distinguished by the crown at four o’clock and bezel-less case architecture, the 62GS reissue was the fourth to join Seiko’s successful line of historical remakes, after the GS1ST, 57GS Self-Dater and 44GS. Though the 62GS reissue has several minor modifications relative to the original, it is a faithful reissue. The dial takes from the original shade of the 1967 model and features the words "automatic" and "diashock". The crown is also located at four o’clock, unlike many of the other modern GS which use the 62GS case (eg. The ‘Seasons’ collection). The original crown placement was designed this way to indicate it was powered by an automatic movement (the first self-winding Grand Seiko) and to make it less obtrusive. The Grand Seiko lion logo on the case back is similar to the early 62GS dial variants which also featured the GS lion. A change from the original is the slightly larger case. It measures 37.6 mm in diameter, about 1 mm larger than the original while being 12.9mm thick, about 2mm thicker than the original. This was done to accommodate a movement that’s larger than the vintage 6245 and 46 calibre. The hands and hour markers are diamond-cut, leaving them with a mirror-like finish that catches the light well in any situation. The watch is powered by the 9S65 movement. It has a three day power reserve and is rated to -3 to +5 seconds a day, which is the Grand Seiko standard for average daily rate. The presence of this watch on the wrist is beautiful, with a lot of vintage appeal with clean, crisp legibility.
The SBGR091 appeared at a major auction house for the first time in the spring 2022 season and performed extremely well- cementing itself as a future collectible for serious watch enthusiasts.
This Grand Seiko SBGR091 is in overall excellent condition. The watch has been worn only occasionally since originally being purchased in 2015. As such, there are no scratches on the case and has never been polished. The caseback lion medalion is in execellent shape with the case back having some minor hairline scraches. The watch comes with its original white gold buckle along with two straps - one new saffiano strap from Delugs and the original alligator strap from Seiko (unworn condition). The movement is currently running at an excellent -0.9 seconds/day. The watch comes with its inner box, GS limited edition numbered guarantee papers, and GS inspection certificate. It is missing its instructions manual and the outer box is a Credor branded box. The set comes from the original owner who purchased this from Grand Seiko in October 2015.
