Introduced in 1967, the 62GS series was the  first Grand Seiko with an automatic movement. Produced by the Suwa Seikosha, the watch was originally introduced to the market in 1966 as the 62 Seikomatic model. These Seikomatic’s were marketed as chronometers, but following the objection from the Swiss chronometry association, Seiko established their own “Grand Seiko Standard” and removed the word “Chonometer” from their dials - thus bringing the 62 Grand Seiko to the market in 1967. The 62GS was only produced for two years making it one of the rarer vintage Grand Seiko model. Its design has been used in many of the modern GS models for its timeless / revolutionary bezel less case architecture.

Overall this vintage 62GS date is in great condition. The case has been polished in past but the lugs remain sharp and retains its original case geometry. The original dial is well preserved with the applied Seiko and GS applied logo in crisp shape. Overall the dial is clean with no major blemishes or spotting. The crystal has been replaced with a new old stock 62GS crystal. The handset and index are original and shows some ageing but is in overall good condition. The watch comes with its original caseback with the highly desirable lion medallion. The caseback medallion is in excellent condition. The watch also will come with a clear case back so that you can switch the original lion case back to preserve the medallion and enjoy the movement. The watch has just been serviced in February 2023 and is running at +4.6 sec/day.
