Chopard was founded in 1860 by Louis-Ulysse Chopard, a watchmaker from Sonvillier, Switzerland who excelled in creating unique chronometers and pocket watches. Since 1963 it has been privately owned by the Scheufele's, a family from Germany that owned a jewelry and watch company who were keen to acquire a Swiss manufacturer who could supply their movements. The company is still owned by the family today and is thus one of the few privately owned Swiss watch manufacturers today.

This watch is from the Chopard Classique collection from the early 2000's. The standard variant featured a white dial housed in either a yellow gold or white gold case. In addition to the regular version, a limited edition was produced, featuring a mother-of-pearl dial enclosed in a white gold case. This exclusive edition was produced in a limited quantity of 1000 pieces, each case being uniquely numbered.

A mother of pearl dial is a dial that is made from the iridescent and shining layer of shell that is produced by certain mollusks, like abalone and pearl oysters. This layer is called "mother of pearl" or "nacre". Creating a mother of pearl dial is a difficult and time-consuming process, as the shell must be carefully cut and polished to remove any imperfections or irregularities. The result is a beautiful and unique dial that shimmers and changes in the light. Because no two shells are exactly the same, every mother of pearl dial is one of a kind.

Overall, this all original Chopard Classique limited edition mother of pearl dial is in fantastic condition. The white gold case appears to be unpolished with no major scratches. All the engravings and hallmarks on the case back are very crisp. The original mother of pearl dial is in flawless / beautiful condition and is a sight to behold. The applied white gold Roman numeral index and minute hands are in excellent shape. The original crown is in crisp condition as well. The movement was serviced by our watchmaker in June 2023 and is currently running at +8.7 seconds per day. The watch comes with a brand new black calf leather strap along with a steel Chopard signed buckle original to the watch.
