In 1917, inspired by the new Renault tanks which were in use on the Western Front, Louis Cartier designed the Tank. Its lines and proportions are therefore similar to those of tanks found on First World War battlefields; rectangular with its strap seamlessly integrated into vertical sidebars called "brancards". In existence for over 100 years, the Tank is a truly timeless watch and its no surprise that it has been worn by celebrities long before watch companies had "Brand ambassadors." Cartier continues to include the Tank Louis Cartier in its current collection, which speaks to the enduring appeal of this classic dress watch from the Paris maison.

This piece we have on offer is the highly sought after CPCP (Cartier Paris Collection Privee) Tank Louis in platinum. It is an early CPCP Tank Louis without the central rosette motif on the dial. The platinum Tank Louis were produced in very limited numbers and most collectors estimate that less than 150 CPCP TLC platinum models were produced during the series' ten year run. The CPCP platinum Tank are all numbered on its case back and this one has a double digit number (X1).

Overall, this Platinum Tank Louis is in excellent condition. The platinum case has some minor scuffs and scratches consistent with a watch of this age. However, it has never been polished and it retains its beautiful edges. All the hallmarks are very crisp on the case and caseback as well. The original guilloche dial is in very clean condition with no blemishes. The blued steel hands as well as the sapphire cabochon are also in excellent shape. The watch comes with its original 18k white gold Cartier stamped deployant clasp. It is fitted with a burgundy calf strap from Accurate form. The movement was recently serviced in July 2023 by a respected watchmaker and is currently running at +6.9 second/day. The watch comes with its CPCP red leather mahogany box (missing cushion), outer box sleeve, red inner booklet, certificate of guarantee as well as a Cartier wood loupe box and loupe which was sometimes included when CPCP model was sold at a boutique.
