In 1917, inspired by the new Renault tanks which were in use on the Western Front, Louis Cartier designed the Tank. Its lines and proportions are therefore similar to those of tanks found on First World War battlefields; rectangular with its strap seamlessly integrated into vertical sidebars called "brancards". In existence for over 100 years, the Tank is a truly timeless watch and its no surprise that it has been worn by celebrities long before watch companies had "Brand ambassadors". This example is the Tank Louis Cartier "extra flat" powered by the ultra thin Frederique Piguet caliber 21. This legendary caliber 21 powered tank has all the essential Cartier details you want. A black Arabic numerals on a crisp white guilloche dial, the blue sapphire cabochon on the crown, and blued steel sword hands to match. These guilloche dial Tank Louis which were produced in the early 90's would become direct descendants to the CPCP Tank Louis. In fact, both models share pretty much the same dial, case, and movement. The the only visual difference being that the word "Paris" is written on the early CPCP Tank Louis guilloche dials. Another major attraction of this example is that it comes with its original box and papers - a rarity for this model. Overall, this Tank is in fantastic vintage condition. The case is in beautiful, unpolished shape and retains its original edge and curves. The original guilloche white dial is in clean condition with no blemishes. The blue steel handset and blue sapphire cabochon crown are all original and is in great condition. The caliber 21 movement was just serviced by our watchmaker in August 2023 and is currently running at +7.2 seconds per day.
