The Tank Chinoise was first produced by Cartier in 1922, at a time when aesthetics from the “Far East” had become wildly popular in European design. With “Chinoise” being the French word for Chinese, the model took the classic Tank silhouette and added broad horizontal bars above and below the dial, inspired by the lintels of Chinese temples. With a new line of Tank Chinoise being announced by Cartier as part of the Cartier Prive Collection at Watches & Wonders 2022, the Chinoise has certainly found new found interest by collectors around the world. Now is the chance to own this very collectible and relatively rare model from Cartier.

This Tank Chinoise in yellow gold we have on offer is the reference 8105 that was produced during the 1990's and powered by a quartz caliber. The 22mm x 30mm sleek case design is substantial enough to fit on a man's wrist. Although the watch can certainly work on a women's wrist too.

Overall, this Tank Chinoise is in excellent condition. The case is in beautiful, unpolished shape and retains its sharp edges. The combination of the mirror and brush finishing on the Chinoise case is still well defined. There are superficial scratches throughout the case consistent with wear over time. The hallmarks and serial numbers on the case is in crisp shape. The original Swiss only white lacquer dial is in overall good condition with no blemishes. As with many Cartier lacquered dials from this era, the dial has developed some minor cracks that can be seen through a loupe. The watch comes with a new black calf leather strap and a Cartier gold plated pin buckle. The battery of the quartz movement was just replaced in January 2024. The watch comes with a Cartier box.
