The Tank Chinoise was first produced by Cartier in 1922, at a time when aesthetics from the “Far East” had become wildly popular in European design. With “Chinoise” being the French word for Chinese, the model took the classic Tank silhouette and added broad horizontal bars above and below the dial, inspired by the lintels of Chinese temples.

This is the highly sought after CPCP (Cartier Paris Collection Privee) Tank Chinoise in Rose Gold. The time-only Chinoise was produced in Rose Gold and Platinum. The dial of the watch is wonderfully executed with all the collector favorite CPCP code present including a subtle guilloché pattern dial with a rossete motif in the center, black painted Roman numerals, the chemin-de-fer minute track, and the beautiful flame-blued Breguet hands. The Chinoise also has a clear case back which allows you to marvel at the beauty of the hand wound 437MC caliber which was based on a Piaget movement. With a new line of Tank Chinoise just being announced by Cartier as part of the Prive Collection at Watches & Wonders 2022, the CPCP Chinoise has certainly found new found interest by collectors around the world. Overall, this Tank Chinoise is in excellent condition. The case is in beautiful, unpolished shape and retains its original curves. It has superficial marks throughout consistent with wear over time. Both model engravings and hallmarks remain deep and legible on the underside of the case. The dial is flawless with no blemishes. The watch comes with a brand new brown calf leather strap custom made by Cartier. The watch also comes with its original rose gold Cartier deployant clasp. The movement was last serviced in February 2022 and is in full working order. The watch will come with a 3 month movement warranty from us.
