Debuting in 1933, the Tank Basculante took inspiration from the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso, the iconic timepiece where the case could be flipped to protect its dial for use during polo matches. The Reverso flips on its horizontal axis but the Cartier Basculante was designed to flip the case over its vertical axis, allowing it to stand upright in mid-rotation to double as a table clock. All of this was done elegantly via the central jewel of the watch, where the wearer would flick it open to initiate the flipping of the case.

This is the highly sought after CPCP (Cartier Paris Collection Privee) Tank Basculante in Yellow Gold, the Ref. 2391. This reference features a very unique engraving on the case back, as it was made to celebrate the new millennium. It is a strictly numbered limited edition and only 365 pieces were made available. It is powered by the ultra-slim, manually winding F. Piguet 6.10 (Cartier 060MC). The dial of the watch is wonderfully executed with all the collector favorite CPCP code present including a subtle guilloché pattern dial, black painted Roman numerals, the chemin-de-fer minute track, and the beautiful flame-blued steel hands.

Overall, this Tank Basculante is in excellent condition. What makes this watch truly special is that it comes from its original owner and comes as a full set including the receipt/invoice from the Cartier Boutique that it was purchased from. The watch went through a full service by Cartier in July 2022 with just very light polish performed on the case. The watch comes with original black alligator strap by Cartier as well as its original yellow gold Cartier deployant clasp. The full set includes the CPCP mahogany wood box, user manual, certificate of guarantee, limited edition number booklet (number xx of 365 produced), red leather booklet, original receipt/invoice from Cartier, and Cartier service papers from 2022.
