The Santos dates back to 1904 when Louis Cartier was asked by his Brazilian aviator friend, Alberto Santos Dumont, to design a watch that he could wear during his flights. In a way, the Santos Dumont was therefore the world's first pilots watch. Fast forward to the 1970's and amidst the quartz crisis Cartier released the Santos de Cartier. The Santos was born in 1978 as a a result of Cartier’s decision to try to appeal to a younger crowd who leaned towards sportier watches. In order to give the new Santos a more modern look, Cartier gave the watch an integrated bracelet instead of a traditional leather strap. Cartier made the bracelet in stainless steel, a true change in course for the maison that had only worked with precious metal in the past. In 1987, Cartier further made updates to the Santos and launched the Santos Galbee. The Santos Galbee had a slightly more curved case along with a new bracelet which gave it a more streamlined look than its predecessor. All in all, the Santos  is undoubtedly an icon and arguably the most famous Cartier timepiece in the storied brands history.

Overall, this Santos Galbee sized in LM is in great unpolished condition. The case has just few scratches and is very sharp, retaining its original bevels. The original silver guilloche dial is in clean condition with no blemishes or discoloration. The blue steeled hands as well as the crown guards and blue sapphire cabochon is in fantastic shape. The bracelet is free of scratches and is in great shape too. It has one extra link and can fit up to a 17.8cm (7 inch) wrist size. The bracelet adjustment can be done at a Cartier boutique. The automatic movement has been serviced in December 2022 and is currently running at -3.4 sec/day. The watch comes with its original Cartier outer/inner box, booklet case, and guarantee that shows it was originally purchased in 2002.
