The Tank Chinoise was first produced by Cartier in 1922, at a time when aesthetics from the “Far East” had become wildly popular in European design. With “Chinoise” being the French word for Chinese, the model took the classic Tank silhouette and added broad horizontal bars above and below the dial, inspired by the lintels of Chinese temples.

This is the highly sought after Tank Chinoise in platinum from the Prive Collection introduced in 2022 at Watches and Wonders to celebrate the 100th year of the Chinoise. The standard time-only Chinoise was produced in Yellow Gold, Rose Gold, and Platinum each limited to 150 pieces and numbered. The dial of the watch is wonderfully executed with a beautiful grey sunray finish and the case of this Chinoise is rectangular with the sharpness more pronounced than the previous limited edition Chinoise in 2004 which is square and has a more rounded case. Unlike a lot of the other Tank models, the Tank Chinoise has not been revisited very often in the history of Tank models overall – the last time was in 2004, as part of the Collection Privé Cartier Paris (CPCP) collection.


Overall, this Tank Chinoise is in near mint condition. The case is in beautiful, unpolished shape with no scratches or blemishes. The dial is also flawless. The watch comes with its original Cartier alligator strap along with a calf strap from Molequin (pictured) and also comes with its original Cartier pin buckle. The watch comes as a full set from the original owner with its Cartier outer/inner box, guarantee card, limited edition booklet, procedure manual, loupe, and other accessories. The watch is still under warranty under the Cartier Care program.
