Seiko). One of the standout features of the Grand Seiko 4520-8000 (and its date window brother 4522) is its slim "grammar of design" case profile. At just 9mm thick, this watch is much thinner than other mechanical watches of the same era. The case famously was designed by Tanaka Taro, Seiko's first in house designer, and was first introduced in the 44GS - also produced by the Kameido factory. Powering the Grand Seiko 4520-8000 is the high-quality 4520A caliber-developed in-house by Daini Seikosha and arguably the greatest movement made by Seiko. Introduced in 1968, the Hi-Beat caliber 45 was used in both the King Seiko and Grand Seiko models, and is loved by Seiko enthusiasts around the world for its incredible accuracy. You can read more about the legendary movement here. The 45 family of movements represent the pinnacle of Japanese watchmaking achievement and its derivative competed in the 1968 Geneva watch competitions where it swept the mechanical watch category for accuracy beating out Swiss watchmakers.

This Grand Seiko 4520-8000 in stainless steel is a fully original and highly appealing example. The case has likely undergone only minimal polishing over its lifetime, as it still retains strong proportions with sharp, well-defined edges. It beautifully reflects Tanaka’s celebrated Grammar of Design, with crisp lines and an elegant presence on the wrist. The original silver-white dial remains in clean condition, free from any notable blemishes. The crystal has been replaced with a correct new old stock 45GS crystal. The hands and crown are original to the watch and remain in good condition. The case back shows some scratch marks, likely from previous attempts to open it. Based on our experience, the GS medallion on the case back is likely a replacement. The movement was serviced by our watchmaker in May 2023 and is currently running very well at approximately +2.9 seconds per day.

Ships from Japan

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0750/6765/4419/files/DSC05666_2f7b67bd-c7bb-4c2a-9bbd-c64a769a24b2.jpg?v=1777728219
